By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
Are you coming up short on your interviews? Here I answer one of the more obnoxious questions asked on an interview.
Hi, I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter, and I’m called The Big Game Hunter because I’ve been hunting down leaders and staff from organizations. Well, it seems like it’s almost 100 years, but it’s actually closer to 40. Today, I’m going to talk with you about one of those tough interview questions that organizations will ask on interviews.
And the question goes something like this. Ready? I’m going to get real serious on you. So, why do you think you’re the most qualified person I’ve interviewed for this job? Ooh, don’t they seem real serious about that one? And it’s a ridiculous question.
We both know that. But it works. And what happens is most job applicants get nervous.
They start getting anxious and plead the case and fumble around with their answers and stammer and act like I’m behaving right now. So, that’s not the right answer. What you want to do instead is pause for a second, act like you’re thinking about it, look them square in the eye and go, you know, I don’t really know if I’m the most qualified person that you’ve met with.
But what I’ve done is I’ve listed four or five different things that you’ve done that relate to what they’re looking for. I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. And if you’d like answers to tough interview questions and advice about job hunting, I’d like you to subscribe to my free job search e-zine, No BS Job Search Advice e-zine that I publish every Tuesday.
